Really marvelous to finally revisit Jeff Hartman's music with his band Brian Burton (Cast Iron Filter) on drums, Scott McCloud on bass and vocals, and Jeff on keys and fine, soulful vocals. While this tavern was new to us, the holiday party attendees were very happy with what they heard from this band. We were extremely happy with them as well. Jeff plays such a wide variety of music, from top 40 covers (catering to this type of gig) to his soulful, jazzed, hip original tunes which we've come to know and love. The CD, The Black Album (in memory of David Black/Old House Recording Studio), is a perfect album to kick back with, groove to and cater to your own soulful funkiness.

I first heard you guys at the Steely Dan show back in August. I just saw the tour dates and where you played Wilmington last weekend. I hate I missed that. However, I see you're booked throughout the rest of the year. If you all could make it back down here, it would be awesome. What I really like is how you are the first sidestage band that I heard that was unbelievably inclined musically and reading from charts is really impressive. I have never seen that except for some jazz clubs, occasionally. I enjoy the music and esp. the Seal cover. You guys keep doing what you do. God bless.

I'm sure you all have received good feedback as well. Wonderful job, EVERYONE!

I think the talent around here is truly amazing--it continues to surprise and impress! I'm forwarding this email to the entire ILYYPNC company, for they need to hear this too. I have to tell you, the stage hands poking their heads out at the end was not my idea, it was theirs! In fact, I'm a little ashamed I didn't think of it myself. It was a very cute addition, I think. It just shows that theatre is truly a collaboration, and that the magic couldn't occur without the sum of all its parts. It's what keeps me comin' back! Kudos to all on "I Love You ..." but you know what I think? I think you raided the Broadway talent pool and created a bogus local resume for the performers. They were all equally impressive. Not to disparage the local talent, but this group was especially outstanding across the board. Of course, the first "character" one sees is the set, and the minimalist design was a clever addition to the cast, allowing the musicians to share the stage unobtrusively. Nice work by the band, by the way. At the end of the play we saw the two stage hands lean out from the wings during the ovations and wave at the audience. Was that a little director's touch, acknowledging their roles as actors, in a sense, in the play? Bottom line: Thanks for a great evening at the theatre. It's a shame that the productions have such limited runs. There are clearly some, such as "I Love You ...," that deserve a longer life.

Hi, Everyone. Paul & I went to see Jeff Hartman (Carol Anne's husband) in "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" at Hickory Community Theater. It was GREAT! Jeff was incredible ... sooo funny and such an incredible voice!! He is amazingly talented ... TRULY!!!! I laughed and cried throughout the play. The cast consists of only 4 people ... so you get to see lots of Jeff. It is a musical about dating, marriage, and different stages of relationships. It definitely has adult humor and sexual references, but it is does not rule the play. I just wanted to encourage you ALL to go and see it. You really won't want to miss the chance to see Jeff shine. I can't say enough about how impressed we were. Even Paul REALLY enjoyed it ... and you know how Paul is about musicals :-) This is the last weekend it is being performed. I know we are all soooo busy, but get babysitters and GO ... It plays tonight (Fri) and Sat. night at 8 pm and then again on Sunday afternoon at 2:30. You can call 328-2283 to get ticket reservations and then pay for them at the theater. Hope you can make time to go and see this.

Hey Jeff, It is really great to hear from you and hear that you are doing well!!! I am definitely going to try to see your musical in March. I am cutting it really close because I don’t fly in until the 25th, but I am definitely going to try!!

I can see what you are saying about this transition phase. One, it cracks me up that people think you actually go by the name of Scott. One, the whole story about how the band's name came to be was on your website for how long? And two, during the shows you NEVER called yourself Scott. It amazes me how people don’t always listen or only hear what they want to hear! Anyways, I know it will take some time, but it will be worth it!

As for how SJB grew over the years, you are right, and it is amazing. I was downloading the songs from your site the other day and I was shocked at how different the sounds really are. I think those true fans and those who truly appreciate music will definitely appreciate that page and “get it.” Those who are still calling you Scott?? Well, don’t hold your breath. If they don’t know that much maybe they aren’t meant to get it. But if they want to give you their money, that is fine! Take it so that others who will “get it” can hear you!

Anyways, I really should get back to work, but it was great to hear from you! Please keep me posted on how things are going for you!!! And the soap box doesn’t bother me, so if you need to I am right here! It sounds like you are definitely on the right track and I can’t wait to hear the new album and hopefully catch your performance!!! Take care and I will talk to you soon!!

Hey Jeff. So, I just wanted to say a quick hello. I am at work and finally got a chance to catch up on all the old websites to see what is going on and saw your '05 review. I have to say it definitely brought tears to my eyes. I hope you know that as grateful as you are for the support, we are more grateful to be able to hear you perform!

You know that hearing the split was nothing short of heartbreaking for me, but I have complete faith in you! I am excited for you about your upcoming performance and I know that great things will come of it!

Seeing your website definitely makes me homesick for a place that was never suppose to be my home. Somehow I definitely made a home there. You and your music was a HUGE part of that. I don’t think I need to tell you that. I assume that you know that, but I wanted to mention it anyway.

So much for my short email, right? Believe it or not I can be MUCH worse and MUCH longer winded! Anyways, wanted to send you an email since the chances of me just running into you are hard to do from Maine, but you were warned don’t think that means you will never run into me again! I will be in Charlotte the end of March and I am definitely going to try to catch a show of yours!!

Anyways, I hope that you and your family are doing well and I will definitely be thinking about you Friday night wishing I was in NC instead of Maine! Take care!!

I mean this as a huge compliment, but if for some reason you think that band is horrible, just remember, I have a very un-trained ear... :) Hope to see you all soon!

Hello! You know, I walked past you guys going into the gas station in Savannah and I was like, "Look, a band." Sorry I couldn't stop to talk, but I'd been on the road for five hours and just wanted to get to where I was going. Thanks for leaving your CD with me, though. Gave me a chance to get ya'll's band name and check out the website (which is very well done, by the way). I've got some pretty random friends in some nice places and I'll be sure they get a listen. How do ya'll feel about Columbus, GA? Got a buddy on the radio out there. Nice sound, very ill. Like I said, thanks again for the CD. I'm always stoked to get in on new underground sounds. Ciao.

Jeff, I hope you'll remember me. My maiden name was Sarah Lowe. We graduated together from West Caldwell High School.

I am in need of some help and I thought of you because of your knowledge of the music biz. I have to record an audio tape to accompany a children's book that I just published. I really need it very fast to take along with me to a conference that I am speaking at next weekend. Do you know of any recording studios in my area that will let me bring in someone to play the music and record it for us? It is not anything fancy, just a few songs for kids to learn along with the book. It doesn't have to be high-tech at all, I am just going to use it as a demo in my workshop. In the future, I would like to mass produce the tapes to sell along with the book.

I am living just north of Charlotte in Huntersville. Any advice you would have will be MOST appreciated. I am on a terribly short deadline, so I know that I might be out of luck!!

Thanks so much for your help!!

Dearest Jeff, praises to God for your special day. Here it is the 30th and you are 30 years young. A once in a lifetime birth date! I am so very happy that God created you and gave you so many blessings in life. You are most deserving of them all. I regret that we haven’t been in touch as we need to be, but know that prayers go up for you, Carol, Timmy and of course, the band and its success! You and Carol have touched my life in a way you will never know. Just keep your focus on the Lord and He will continue to guide your life’s pathways. I am so very proud of you and feel it a privilege to know you. May God Bless you with many more birthdays. Your “cream in your coffee,” Barb

P.S. - Phone your parents today and thank them for giving you life!

I have always enjoyed your performances in the studio, but they pale in comparison to hearing the whole band live. What a great sound, really full and really fat (not phat). Okay, maybe a little phat. You know what I mean, a really good sound. The vocals and the instrumentation were wonderfully blended and the performance was a real treat. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the event! This band is a world class group just waiting to happen.

I was on your website today and saw how far you guys have come and just wanted to congratulate the whole band. You guys are really good. Now that I am moved into my new home in Hickory, I am going to stop by a few of the evenings that you are playing to see if I can get some good shots of the band for you. I've been doing the drum recital every 6 months for Rick Cline for the kids. Speaking of drum shows, the North Carolina, PAS (Percussive Arts Society) Day of Percussion is right around the corner on March 24th. If you can make it you won't want to miss Dom Famularo at 4 pm with special guest 13 year old Mike DeAngelo from Charlotte followed by Mike Mangini. Mike is from Boston and did 2 world tours with Extreme ("More Than Words") after Paul Geary left the band. Paul is a rock drummer, Mike is a virtuoso. In my opinion there are 3 drummers alive today that are taking drumming to the next level, Virgil Donati from Austrailia, Marco Minnemann from Germany, and Mike Mangini from the US. He is presently a professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and tours with Steve Vai, Mike Kennaly and was on that G5 live album (I think thats what it was called!). Anyway, I'm trying to tell as many people about this as I can. AND, he's playing my drumset that night, so I'm A LITTLE excited about that. But I will see you guys soon, you play so close to home for me. Also, one more question? - Scott who?
